ELI/IEP Policies and Procedures Students, who are unable to meet the specified score of TOEFL or IELTS admission requirements (i.e. 500+, 61+, or 5.0+ TOEFL (PBT), TOEFL (iBT), and IELTS respectively), should attend the Intensive English Program (IEP) offered by the English Language Institute (ELI). They will be placed in one of the below listed IEP’s levels according to their scores in either in-house Placement Test, or PB Test, or iB Test. ELI/IEP levels To create the most effective and successful way of teaching English, we believe in combining methodology with developed technology. Our communicative approach is encouraging our students to build on past experiences and learn from others through working collectively. Our main objective is enabling students, staff, and the
wider community to understand, read, and write in English accurately and fluently. Classrooms are well-prepared to offer opportunities to our students communicating in English using real life scenarios. All ELI students who pass the advanced level are required to score 500+, 61+, or 5.0+ TOEFL (PBT), TOEFL (iBT), and IELTS respectively, before being admitted to their chosen academic program. ELI Progress Shifting from one level to the upper level will be based on students’ overall performance across the five skills: reading, listening, writing, speaking, and grammar. If an ELI student scores 500+, 61+ or 5.0+ TOEFL (PBT), TOEFL (iBT), and IELTS respectively during their attendance at one of the IEP levels, he/she is eligible to be exempted from ELI and admitted directly into the chosen academic program. An ELI student who passes the advanced level, but he/she fails to achieve the one of the required scores, he/she should be admitted to a 16-weeks TOEFL preparatory course and can register nine credit hours. If a TOEFL preparatory course student fails to achieve the required score, he/she is allowed to repeat the 16-weeks TOEFL preparatory course without registering to any credit courses until meeting the required score. |
