Dr. Alexander Arguelles earned his B.A. from Columbia University and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. Before joining AUE, he taught at universities in Germany, South Korea, Lebanon, the U.S.A., and Singapore. He is steeped in the “Great Books” tradition of the interdisciplinary liberal arts, and his studies have included comparative literature (French and German), the comparative history of religions, and comparative historical linguistics (Germanic philology). He is the author of a multilingual dictionary and of numerous reference works for the study of Korean, as well as of several volumes of literary translations. His main research interests focus on foreign language study skills, in particular how the know-how of experienced language learners can best be imparted to beginning language students.
